ON HILL MARI

Our website describes the activities and results of a linguistic field project on Hill Mari. Our talks and publications available here either focus on Hill Mari itself or compare Hill Mari data to detailed materials from other languages.
The project is carried out at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Philology) and follows the traditions of field linguistics set up by Alexander Kibrik and Ariadna Kuznetsova.
We study eastern local idioms of Hill Mari – primarily in the village of Kuznetsovo (Hill Mari district, the Republic of Mari El), as well as in some neighbouring villages (Tyumanovo, Apshak-Pelyak, Nikishkino, Paulkino, Kukshilidy, Kozhlananger).
